"Rechavia" by Maxim D. Shrayer

Rechavia

Wake up in Jerusalem

like a babe in her mother’s lap.

Unshut your eyes and see:

You’re in the room of a traveler’s inn,

sleeping next to you on a narrow cot

your own—G-d’s—creation,

an eight-year-old daughter.

And all the metaphors mix

on the palette of Saturday morning.
